HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN FETISH/BDSM?
I always had a leaning that way, even at a young age. Of course, at that point you don’t realize that those things are considered to be a fetish. I was always entranced by corsets (leading me to tight-lace), stockings, ballet heels, bondage, suspension, masks, latex.... I had a pictures of Bettie Page on my wall when I was 4. Haha.
DO YOU ENJOY FETISHISM/BDSM PLAY IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, AND IF SO WHAT ARE YOU INTO?
I definitely do “live the lifestyle” as they say. But my personal life is personal so I’ll have to let you use your imagination there.
ARE THERE ANY FETISHES THAT YOU DON'T FIND APPEALING?
I think all fetishes are beautiful and that we should never judge what someone else may find appealing. If we all liked the same things the world would be a very boring place.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT FETISH MODELING?
I feel in my element in front of the camera and the outfits and photo concepts that I do in my fetish modeling are such fun. I love contorting my body in poses and using my dance experience to create interesting images for others to enjoy. It will be lovely to look back at it all when I’m an old lady.
CLASSIC PINUP HAS BECOME A HUGE PHENOMENA LATELY, WHAT ABOUT IT FIRST CAPTURED YOUR INTEREST?
I used to pour over old movie books when I was young, and my grandparents got me hooked on classic films from the 1920s to the 1960s. I sort of fell into pin-up modeling a few years back when Damzels in this Dress asked me to do some things for them. After that, everyone has been associating me with pin-up. I find the cheesy posing fun because it doesn’t take itself to serious. It’s all about being a little over the top and silly. And the outfits are just fabulous! They make you feel very put together and proper.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF OUTFITS TO MODEL IN?
Oh, where to begin. I love clothes and I suppose because I’m a Gemini I appreciate a variety of different styles. For fabrics, I love latex, leather (sorry PETA), vintage fur (sorry once again), velvet, cashmere, silk, satin. I love wearing corsets, vintage lingerie, tailored and perfectly draped garments, tight pants or skirts, backless gowns. And my favorite of all is being nude. I’m really a happy little nudist at heart and I love how free I feel in my posing when I’m in that state.
DO YOU THINK PINUP AND FETISH ARE BECOMING PART OF THE MAINSTREAM CULTURE?
I think we have seen a huge cross-over of pinup and fetish into the mainstream thanks to women like Dita Von Teese who brought more awareness to Burlesque and vintage culture, and designers like Christian Louboutin and Gareth Pugh who are using fetish as an inspiration for their designs. Gaultier has been doing it for awhile now, and Christian Louboutin created a series of ballet heels a few years back with David Lynch. Lady Gaga is another pop culture icon who is using fetish wear as a part of her stage persona. Now when we open magazines or watch television, images that were previously so taboo are being discussed. I think it’s great. Perhaps society is ready to move forward and becoming more open-minded both for themselves and others.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
I love all kinds. Jazz, opera, classic rock, glam rock, psychedelic, post-punk, punk, drum ‘n bass, etc. And (prepare for some shameless self-promotion) my favorite band is Velvetbox, a shoe-gazer/indie/post punk band based in Toronto. It’s fronted by Lawson Carroll, and I play bass and sing back-up vocals. My other band mates are the brilliant Samuel Bisson and drummer extraordinaire Fegal Lawler (previously of The Cranberries). We’re working on a new album which will be coming out in March 2011 and touring about Canada this summer.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
I love spending time with my friends and relaxing! I’m always on the go with work so it’s great when I can just slow the pace down and do nothing. During the summer I’m all about going to the beach, sitting in the park, picnics, street festivals and wandering around Kensington market.
