HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN FETISH/BDSM?
I spent my teenage years in layers of black eyeliner and platform boots so being exposed to fetish fashion and, later on, lifestyle was predictable. I do remember being shocked beyond belief when I was at a friend's (fellow fan of black) place and he had a Saint Andrew's Cross in his livingroom!! I didn't even know what it was but I could guess what it would be used for, haha. A few years later I did my first fetish photoshoot for a fetish boutique and well, that got the ball rolling. (and my enthusiasm going!)
DO YOU ENJOY FETISHISM/BDSM PLAY IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, AND IF SO WHAT ARE YOU INTO?
I do, but it's not the biggest thing in my life. The fetish fashion and art (in the widest sense of the word) excites me the most but I also do enjoy some kink in the bedroom (or well, anywhere really) I'm up for quite a lot, the ultimate fantasy still remains to be tied up and brutally fucked in a psychedelic fairytale kind of scene... magical forest, an Alice in wonderland costume, elves etc. and yes, I'm a fantasy geek.
ARE THERE ANY FETISHES THAT YOU DON'T FIND APPEALING?
Yeah, there are definitely a few kinks that are no doubt far beyond the line for me. I'm not judging people with fetishes that turn me off, but I seriously have a problem with those who act on hurtful fantasies (pedophilia, real rape etc.)
There are also some things I don't find quite appealing right now, but could be cool to try out some day and I might just like it a lot. (I remember being frightened of being tied up a while back, but that's actually one of my biggest kinks now!)
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT FETISH MODELING?
Oh there's so much that excites me! All the wonderful people I get to work with, photographers, designers, the beautiful models, make-up artists, seeing cool places, but best of all getting to wear amazing outfits. Last spring, the wonderful designer Peter Domenie took me and a few other models to Fetish Evolution to do a fashion show and the whole weekend was such a great experience, we worked hard but had a fantastic time. I love how in the fetish scene all the models are so nice to each other, which is very different from a lot of other scenes.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF OUTFITS TO MODEL IN?
Latex!!! latex!! and let me be clear; LATEX.
But overall I'm pretty much into anything out of the ordinary, I love working with designers who have a different, more innovative approach to (alternative) fashion. I'm also a big fan of historical clothing, anything from rococo to Victorian to 20th century, so I'm especially in love with the more romantic fetish outfits. And let's not forget corsets! In my 'goth years' I wore corsets everyday, so I trained my body to deal with being radically laced-up.
Basically I'm just a clothing, shoes, rubber, corset, lingerie, stockings- fetishist.
CLASSIC BURLESQUE HAS BECOME A HUGE PHENOMENA LATELY, WHAT ABOUT IT FIRST CAPTURED YOUR INTEREST?
My grandfather made me watch these old movies with him when I was a kid, and I remember being in absolute awe with Marilyn Monroe. I know it's a bit of a cliché, but she's really a role model to me. I was brought up with classical music and ballet classes which I'm thankful for, dancing has always been a big part of my life. Being very interested in retro/vintage films, fashion and music, Burlesque seemed the perfect fit. In the Netherlands burlesque was only just starting up when I wanted to perform, and I was lucky to get a change to perform at one of the first Burlesque freakout! nights in Amsterdam, and the whole atmosphere absolutely blew my mind. I was in love.
AT WHAT KIND OF EVENTS DO YOU PERFORM?
Really anything that suits my style. I perform at the 'traditional' burlesque parties, but also fetish and private parties. I occasionally do some techno/club performances, mostly gogo-dancing with a twist. My acts all have a very different style (from oldskool striptease to neo-burlesque but also bellydance and fire acts) so whatever matches the occasion.
WHAT'S IT LIKE PERFORMING ALL OVER AND EXPERIENCING THE DIFFERENT SCENES?
It rocks. And with that I do mean rock 'n roll rocking. There is a cross-over for burlesque, fetish and gothic parties but each scene is so very different, I love them all.
HOW DID YOU START PERFORMING WITH FIRE ?
When I was 16 my boyfriend back then just came back traveling through Australia and picked-up poi when he was there, he taught me some tricks and we played for entire summers. We occasionally did some poi and fire breathing at parties for fun and that turned into actually getting payed to perform at weddings and such. Since then I try to evolve more in other aspects of fire performance and add a bit of flames to other performance areas. I recently developed a tribal fusion bellydance burlesque fire-act (I think tribal tease would be a better term for it ;) ) with my friend and fabulous dancer Sayuri Dee.
WHAT ABOUT FIRE INTRIGUES YOU?
It's dangerous, spectacular and hypnotizing, what's not to like?
WHAT SAFETY CONCERNS ARE INVOLVED IN THAT TYPE OF PERFORMANCE?
Yes, that's always a tricky part. Unfortunately when you perform indoors fire is almost always forbidden. There are some venues that allow small flames, but you can't go all out, which is of course a limit. Other that that we always perform with safety measurements, like fire-blankets and extinguishers. but still, getting burned now and then is just part of the profession ;)
HAS ANYTHING CRAZY EVER HAPPENED AT A SHOW?
We haven't had any serious injuries so far (knock on wood) but my friend, unintentionally, sets his beard on fire on a regular basis.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
I've studied graphic design, which would be my 'day-time job' for the moment, I'm not in love with the work but it's alright, I recently started my own business with my friend Femke, it's a collective of different designer who make more alternative accessories, you can find all organic hand-spun wool products, but also groovy gypsy-like clothing, tribal fusion wear, wool dreads, hairfalls, Victorian and burlesque accessories (which would be my input) and a hairstyling department where we do vintage hairstyling and natural dreadlocks. It's quite diverse but the main thing it's all handcrafted with lots of love and care.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
That's very diverse, I think my true passion lies with the greatest band of all: The Doors. apart from that I also really enjoy Jefferson airplane, John Lee Hooker, Valravn, Chris Isaak, Deine Lakaien, Faun (so much in love with them), Depeche Mode, the Dresden Dolls, Joy Division, Switchblade Symphony. I also listen to a lot of dubstep, DnB, Klezmer, classical music (Philip Glass!), ambient, rockabilly, funk, swing, surf and some metal.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
Recommending Apple products to anyone even those that don't what to hear it, wining a game of chess, taking the first bite of a white chocolate magnum, wining a game of mariokart, buying shoes, watching mindfuck films, having coffee and a cigarette, watching musicians loose themselves in their music, teasing, having an underwear free day to ease my inner hippie and exhibitionist, buying shoes, generally having a good time.
But I really dislike hard bits in my toothpaste.
