WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PICK UP A CAMERA?
I took a photography class when I was a sophomore in high school and we had to make a pinhole camera out of a shoe box and it just went from there. I got hooked and addicted and haven't really stopped shooting. Since then I have been inspired by so many other photographers, past and present, and some of my closest friends who are photographers inspire me daily.
WHAT PARTICULAR CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE WITH EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AS OPPOSED TO OTHER GENRES?
I just stepped into the realm of shooting erotic photography and I have yet to face any challenges. But when I get more established and shoot more erotic content I will be sure to let you know if any challenges come my way!
I recently went to Philly do to a package with Redrum Collaboration and I went there with almost no nude work in my portfolio. When I left I had some of the best work I have ever produced. I shot with PXE and Chelsea Belflower who came all the way out from Reno to shoot with us and a number of other photographers in the Philly area. Some of my new work really made some of my fans of my typical 'vanilla' portraits really angry at the direction my work was going in. Personally I love the sets I did while I was in Philly and I will be doing more erotic work in the future.
DO YOU PREFER TO SHOOT WITH FILM OR DIGITAL?
Digital. It's easier, faster, and I don't have the patience to wait for film to be developed. I respect anyone who shoots film though because I find it to be an art form in itself.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN FETISH/BDSM?
An ex girlfriend from the past who was a bit crazier than I realized I was.
DO YOU ENJOY FETISHISM/BDSM PLAY IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, AND IF SO WHAT ARE YOU INTO?
Who doesn't enjoy a little drunken debauchery sometimes?
DO YOU THINK PINUP AND FETISH ARE BECOMING PART OF THE MAINSTREAM CULTURE?
Yes I do. You can see pinup and fetish style in a lot of the current fashion trends. I hate to use her as a reference but Lady Gaga wears rubber and latex all the time in her music videos and live performances. There are ads in Harper's Bazaar, GQStyle, and Vouge that constantly have fetish and bondage themes going on. Years ago pinup and fetish was taboo in mainstream culture and frowned upon by many people. Now it is accepted by most and they don't even realize they are accepting it most of the time. I never would have thought that pinup and fetish would become part of mainstream culture and become the phenomenon that it has become.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
I studied graphic design and website development while I was in college so I suppose those are the only other creative mediums I work in. I love typography and creating my own typefaces for each specific project I work on. I took a number of different courses while I was in college and either typography or interactive design were my favorite. I have dabbled in a little graffiti here and there but its really nothing to write home about.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
I typically listen to hardcore and pop punk. When I shoot or edit I usually listen to acoustic, instrumental, or ambient stuff. I am slightly obsessed with this band called Fences from Seattle that I just found out from a friend. Lately, I have been listening to a lot of old school hardcore bands like Gang Green, Slapshot, and Cro-Mags.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
I'm a pretty low key nerdy guy. To me fun includes good food, watching movies, and reading books. So anything that has to do with those three things seems fun to me. I also think that "acquiring" my way into abandoned places I know I am not supposed to be in to be liberating and exciting!
