WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PICK UP A CAMERA?
I have been making pictures since I could hold a crayon and always drew and painted. I went to art school for illustration and design and helped found a rock mag in Boston called Lollipop. We started to want to use more original photography and I started assigning projects to local photographers with very mixed results. I decided if I wanted specific images that I should learn to take them myself and bought a refurbished Canon 10D Digital SLR and with the patience of model/makeup artist Manda Caarco started shooting fashion, glam and product shots for the mag. I was hooked. Photography has a collaborative aspect that didn't exist in my design work and I really enjoy working with a great team.
WHAT PARTICULAR CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE WITH EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AS OPPOSED TO OTHER GENRES?
Erotic photography is all about trust... My reputation is everything so I am super careful when shooting anything beyond glamor to make sure the model is comfortable doing what I want for the shoot and doing it because they want to and believe in the project not out of some retarded need to please me. I encounter more of this as I get more of a name on the interweb so I have to be careful not too push models past their limits. Respect is everything.
DO YOU PREFER TO SHOOT WITH FILM OR DIGITAL?
I need the immediacy of a digital camera. I used to shoot film and never have the film developed. I recently bought and old Polaroid 690 and a bunch of film so I am waiting for the right model to do something with that.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN FETISH/BDSM?
The models that I was working with mainly. All of a sudden I wound up shooting a ton of latex and more fetish concepts but honestly those have, by and large, crossed from fetish to fashion at this point.
DO YOU ENJOY FETISHISM/BDSM PLAY IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, AND IF SO WHAT ARE YOU INTO?
My sexual interests are so pedestrian. I like curvy, dark haired girls that look like they belong in a Frank Frazetta painting. The more good tattoos the better and I am really turned on by intelligence. If your a reader, even better. No need to tie them up, choke them, cover them with goo... I think the only thing that approaches a fetish for me is water... I love node women in any kind of water and you will see that recur in my work. Lakes, pools, ponds, rivers, showers... get them wet!
DO YOU THINK PINUP AND FETISH ARE BECOMING PART OF THE MAINSTREAM CULTURE?
Personally I think Pinup is so played out that the only way it interests me is if the photography is stunning. So yeah, its hit the mainstream just in time to get totally ruined. Fetish is much the same except there doesn't seem to be the strict adherence to some past glory that the pinup world follows so its more flexible. Nothing ruins an artist more than a little success. All of a sudden you are terrified to experiment, try new things. Worried that your "fans" won't follow.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
At the moment most of my other mediums are dormant but I have drawn, painted, sculpted, made jewelry, worked as a blacksmith making decorative metalwork, among other dalliances.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
I like a lot of different music and its very dependent on my mood. My iTunes looks like a schizophrenic put the music in it. From classical to bluegrass to death metal.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
I make no distinction between fun and work for the most part. Probably why my financial life is in such a pickle... I like to ride my Harley and go to the local strip club.
