WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PICK UP A CAMERA?
I have always been an extremely visual person. it is easier for me to express and translate things visually than through words. I have tried numerous means throughout the years: drawing, tattooing, body painting, fashion design. So when a need arose for product shots for our designs, it was only natural for me to pick up the camera and have a go at it. and of course, as everything we do, we started experimenting with the medium, producing themed and creative shoots to advertise our clothing as well as to push the limits of our photography.
WHAT PARTICULAR CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE WITH EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AS OPPOSED TO OTHER GENRES?
The biggest challenge is the categorization of genres in itself and adhering to them. We have never strived to produce a certain category of images, we have always simply done what feels right to our personal artistic expression, the specific model as well as the styling pieces we use. And as any photography work, a major challenge, I think, is to translate the exact mood or story you have envisioned, so as many people as possible will be able to relate to it, either through acknowledgment of the original context or through their own interpretation.
DO YOU PREFER TO SHOOT WITH FILM OR DIGITAL?
Digital. Prefer to get instant gratification in life wherever I can.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN FETISH/BDSM? DO YOU ENJOY FETISHISM/BDSM PLAY IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, AND IF SO WHAT ARE YOU INTO?
I think fetish is a very personal thing. There are as many fetishes as there are people. Just like most things can be perceived as erotic, so can most things become fetishes. I think my art as well as personal views are too versatile and ever changing to have any consistent fetishes. I love latex for its versatility and texture, I love Slavic girls for their cheekbones and vampires for their dark hair. I enjoy different things in my personal life as well as in my art, and the photography greatly depends on the style of clothing we produce. I think that every woman has something to adore and every sex game something to fulfill, not excluding BDSM.
DO YOU THINK PINUP AND FETISH ARE BECOMING PART OF THE MAINSTREAM CULTURE?
It does seem like these days alot of celebrities are using fetish themes for the shock factor to promote themselves. I personally do not consider it to be a healthy process and if it keeps happening the subcultures will mutate and lose its authenticity, similar to what has happened to goth. There is no goth any more. There is emo and knidergoth. Its commercialized goth, which has nothing to do with the dark withdrawn subculture of the past decades. Modern goth is everything the original subculture despised and tried to get away from. And I have a feeling that commercialization will try to swallow the existing subcultures as well. Whether it succeeds, it remains to be seen.
Now that is not to say that they should not strive to become mainstream and accessible to more people, I just would hope that they do so with honor and preservation of their unique qualities.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
We have a fashion design company collective chaos and are currently working on a series of shows we plan to stage and produce. I enjoy working with my hands and anything technical or in any way functional is a go for me. I see beauty in mechanisms and endless potential in human darkness.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
Recently I have been listening to Chopin. However, by chance, we ended up with the widest collection of music I have ever known anyone to have, it truly takes time and dedication to go trough it all! That gave us one more reason to experiment and switch it up. eEerything is a go depending on the situation and mood.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
Getting away from things. Change is what keeps life interesting. I love to travel, spend time with my family and work on my end of the world zombie survival kit.
