WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PICK UP A CAMERA?
My father used to explore photography when he was young and eventually he handed me his first camera. I was fascinated by the camera itself and the science behind taking a photo. I neglected using it much due to the costs, but saved money to purchase my first DSLR in 2007. I'd always been an artist at heart and following in my dads footsteps I used it as an outlet for my creativity.
WHAT PARTICULAR CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE WITH EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AS OPPOSED TO OTHER GENRES?
The biggest challenge is finding people who understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. It's an art form in shaping an image that is truly sexy yet tasteful. Anyone can grab a camera and snap a photo of a completely naked person, but it takes a lot of effort and ability to create an image that has depth and emotion with a partial nude to nude subject. What makes it even more difficult for me is that the town I live in is still very conservative so my work ends up getting some negative attention and the occasional envy from certain folks, but it's part of the job description I suppose.
DO YOU PREFER TO SHOOT WITH FILM OR DIGITAL?
I definitely prefer digital due to it's technological advances over film, but I do like to run a few rolls of film a year just so I don't lose the things I've learned.
WHAT KIND OF SHOOTS WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ON IN THE FUTURE?
I'd really love to continue what I'm doing and just push it harder with better locations, increase my model network and travel. I do have a dream in that in the future I will shoot more fashion work and hopefully be published more so than I already have been.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE JUST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
Have fun! Photography and art in general to me is a creative outlet filled with emotion. My favorite emotion is happiness by far so I tend to make sure what I'm doing is fun and that the subject and myself are having a good time. It may be work, but it shouldn't be dull. Other than that follow your own style and when you do what you want the way you want to do it then who cares what others think because you're creating yourself and not a clone.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
I love to cook and work part time as a sushi chef. Crafting a gorgeous meal and plating it in an elegant fashion to make it even more desirable is quite the art. It goes along with my favorite quote, "are you a fan of delicious flavor?" Other than that I love to write on my blog and design websites.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
People who truly know me have noticed that I really don't listen to music at all. Basically anything but country gets me going. If I do listen to music it's classical or rock, but I do enjoy other genres as well.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
I'm a huge beer nut and love to go out with friends and sample new beers and just hang out and relax. My personal fun thing is movies. I watch a lot of movies from good to bad to great and even awful ones. If I'm at the studio editing a few thousand photos you better believe movies are playing the entire time.
