I started in radio at about 15 yrs old. I decided to get in for the free stuff, prison inmates send the best gifts. Oh and if you are like a 6 on the hotness scale, you automatically get 5 extra points if you're a radio dj. So the gospel station in my hometown of Miami, OK gave me an internship preaching the good book. When I hit 18 I went to work in MO at a middle of the road station where I worked with a guy that ate cat food for lunch. I quickly was learning all types work in radio. Soon I got hired in the city, Tulsa, OK at 104.5 The Edge. I spent 10 glorious years there working every shift and making my way up to Assistant Program Director and Music Director. Interviewing Jonathon Davis of Korn was a highlight as well as bands like Mudvayne, Bullet For My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Hawhtorne Heights, GWAR, and many others. I even interviewed porn star Jessica Drake and asked her if she used Anbesol to numb certain "body parts." For the record Jessica said no.
Now, I'm sure you are wondering.....Amber exactly when did you start taking your clothes off for photos? While in high school I did several pageants. Really I wasn't any good at it, but I can strike a pose and hold it for a crazy amount of time. So while in Oklahoma I modeled when I had time but radio is where my heart was. In 2005 I found out I had brain cancer. In Jan. 2005 I had my first seizure in the shower. This was on a Saturday that Monday I went to my doctor who did an MRI, we weren't expecting much, but an hour later he called me and asked me to sit down and told me the news. In April 2005 I had brain surgery which left me unable to walk or talk. I lost all ability to be a functioning adult. I had to move back home with my parents and learn everything over again. After lots of rehab I did go back to radio, but not for long. I soon decided to in a sense retire and model while working on my recovery. I am now cancer free but epileptic. Which I think is a small price to pay for your life. I remember a doctor telling me many famous, talented people have been thought to be epileptic like Edgar Allan Poe, Lewis Carrol, and Vincent Van Gogh. I said, "I don't want to be like Edgar Allan Poe." His response was, "Amber, it's too late."
So now with the interesting cards I've been dealt I keep busy with my pets. My Pomeranian is a certified therapy dog who works with patients in clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes. I also share my home with 3 snakes that I adore. Fussy my Python keeps everyone away from burglars, friends, and even family. One walk by his cage and you will probably wet yourself. He likes to keep people on their toes. Tattoos are also a big passion of mine, I think when I last counted I had 21 including a tattoo of one of my MRIs from my brain tumor. At this point in my life it's all about killin time.
