WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PICK UP A CAMERA?
A few years back I was trying to get some photo shoots done remotely for my tshirt line, and was just never happy with the result and hated to wait a few months for 2 useless photos, so I tried on my own. I also got into selling clothes online and that's when your photos are Everything.
WHAT PARTICULAR CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE WITH EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AS OPPOSED TO OTHER GENRES?
I'm flattered that you call my photos erotic photography, I just want to sell my shirts and designs haha! I do try to set them up a little risky and try to push it a bit more, but It's more like that: I just hate to play it safe. I guess I'm looking for my cues as far as I need to introduce my products, and then pick a setup that I'm happy with, the rest is up to the models and technical stuff.
I feel like a model's eye or facial expression is able to turn a photo dirty or heated, so for me it means more than a naked chest, that's just too easy.
DO YOU PREFER TO SHOOT WITH FILM OR DIGITAL?
I like digital, because of the speed of getting the result and putting it to work, but If I would have the time I would learn everything about analog and go with that. I'm a big fan of old school vs most things new school, but it's nice to take advantage the technology that is being offered to us even on cellphones.
WHAT KIND OF SHOOTS WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ON IN THE FUTURE?
I consider myself and idea man and I have those all the time, I like go crazy, balls out! It's fun to make them provocative, without being vulgar. I have a few crazy ideas for big themes and giant 70's looking sets one day, but until I just take it one day at the time, one shoot at the time.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE JUST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
That it's nice to know what you are doing and go to school for it, but you can learn a lot just by experiencing and experimenting. You can learn a lot about yourself too. Like what is it that you comfortable with, what themes you like and you can just start all that with a regular $200 camera. Not everybody will end up working for a big fashion magazine, National Geographic or Nasa. People work for gossip magazines, reality shows and small businesses too. You can just do it without any serious goals or it can just be a great hobby. No pressure, take your time. Your personality and unique view will shine through if you let it, but it will take time to perfect it. It's a bit of a cliche but basically: Keep your eyes open. People say sometimes that I have a different take on things, but I'm telling you, for me it's normal, I find everything else different that's me, that's all I know. If you are being yourself, you are doing a good job.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
I design my shirts so drawing, graphic design, silkscreening and I also have a few music bands too. I'm also really interested about tattooing and maybe later I would love to work with film or be involved in filmmaking. I guess just like with the photos: I like to tell a story.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
Well it's hard to break it down, but I love a ton of music on a pretty wide scale. I mainly listen to noise, ambient and hardcore music, but I'm up for listening a little classical with my parents, classic rock before going out, jazz for an old bar or hiphop, say at a house party. Haha, It's hard to make me uncomfortable with music...maybe some of the nowadays pop or indy music can drive me to the wall, but I think it's more like the audiences that's annoying.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
Traveling, and working on plans and future projects like more shoots. I'm a notorious list maker. Spending time with my lady:)
A few things about me: I run 1AEON a tshirt company that sells on a few markets and online stores. I was born in Hungary and came to the States on a tour with my band. I live in NYC.
Thank you so much for the recognition and opportunity! A big shout out to Cary!
