HOW DID YOU GET STARTED MODELING?
When I was 12 years-old, I was approached to model for Limited Too (the clothing store). After that I wasn’t really interested in continuing the “modeling thing”. I liked running track and was honestly a bit of a tom-boy. But as I got older I was approached more often about modeling and thought I should give it another try. The second time around I really enjoyed it, so I just kept working hard and it started paying off. :)
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT MODELING?
I think the most exciting part of modeling is the connection. I connect with clothes, makeup, the photographer, and his/her camera all in one sitting. We all work together to get the desired end-result. You know when you see a photo and you can just tell something is “off”? It’s usually because there's no connection. The passion and the drive help the connection.
HOW DID YOU TRANSITION FROM MODELING TO HOSTING?
I found my niche with hosting/interviewing after I moved to Los Angeles. I was approached by a web-based TV show called Altitude TV (recently bought by Revolver TV). I went in and did some green screen tests for them. When they offered me the job, I was surprised and a little nervous. I never really pictured myself doing that kind of thing. I always had my sights set on modeling. But it was rewarding to take on a new adventure and challenge. And as it turns out…I absolutely fell in love with hosting! It’s an amazing experience to interview people who have accomplished so much, are so driven to continue to succeed, and who are so passionate about what they do. I get to meet people and do things that people dream of ... and I get paid for it! I am one lucky girl. The most challenging part of the job is scheduling. Trying to line up the perfect window of opportunity for everyone to meet and spend a couple of hours whenever they are already so busy can be hard. Other than that I have no complaints :)
WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVORITE HOSTING EXPERIENCES?
Wow... I honestly don't think I can pin-point any particular moments and say, “Those were the ones!” Sooo…I am going to say all of them! All the interviews have been different and brought something different, but good into my life. I am constantly inspired by the people I interview.
DO YOU COME FROM A BACKGROUND OF TRAINING IN THE ARTS?
Oh I like that question. No one has ever asked me before. The short answer is – no, I haven’t been trained in the arts (unless you count my saxophone lessons when I was a kid!). :) But my mom did do some modeling…I remember I used to wear her clothes and walk down our hallway and the stairs as if I were a model on the runway (at the age of 6)! And then I did take some modeling classes when I was 18. The class taught me how to look, act, runway walk, pose, do makeup, clothing, designers, etc. Basically it was Modeling 101 class, and it has definitely helped me through the years. I haven’t taken any hosting classes yet, but now that I know I really love doing it, I am looking into several ways I can further my knowledge and skills, including taking classes.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT TATTOOS THAT INTRIGUES YOU?
With tattoos there is something about being able to permanently put something on your body that will last forever. When you are born you can't choose your eye, hair, skin color, but with tattoos you can choose to put on your skin whatever form of self-expression you want and it represents YOU. I also think it’s cool to look at different cultures and how/why they tattoo their bodies.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
Honestly, I like everything. I am not a fan of country or R&B but I do enjoy old punk rock , indie, hip-hop and yes, even Lady Gaga ! :)
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
Well I just got married, so fun to me is being a hermit with my husband .. watching movies.. eating dinner with my girlfriends... shooting and interviewing.. playing with my dog (Monroe).. being thoughtful of people and doing nice things for them.. and working!
