HOW DID YOU GET STARTED MODELING?
It was nine years ago and I was at a club I used to regularly attend with my boyfriend at the time. A goth club to be precise. Yes, I used to be one of those young girls draped in corsets, long velvet skirts and far too much eyeliner. (Ok, I still wear far too much eyeliner but I usually leave the corsets for those private bedroom 'rituals' these days). I was standing at the bar and a lady approached me and introduced herself as a photographer and asked if I had ever modeled before. I thought it was a joke at first because I felt so awkward back in those days but next minute I knew she was handing me her business card and telling me to call her to arrange a shoot. The rest, as they say, is history.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT MODELING?
I love nothing more than trying to capture a moment and freeze it in time. In this respect I would say I am more of an actress than a model, but then again there is a fine line between the two. I spent a great deal of my childhood and teenage years in various Theatre companies and I believe this experience has lent itself to creating my diverse portfolio. I am a total chameleon. I have done everything from classic pin-up to high fashion and avant garde. Being able to convey emotion through my modeling and watching people's reactions to that emotion is what excites me. I totally get off on it and it inspires me to keep pushing the boundaries and trying new styles.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF OUTFITS TO MODEL IN?
If you had asked me this just two years ago I would have said Vintage or Burlesque styled outfits but I have recently fallen in love with Couture / High Fashion styled clothing. Anything out-there and edgey. For example I really love John Galliano's latest designs. In truth I think I have always been drawn to this kind of style but I have grown to appreciate it more with age. I remember sneaking into my school library when I was 12 years old and ripping a photograph out of a large Fashion book of a woman dressed in a mans suit designed by some eccentric Japanese fashion designer. I was drawn to the fact that the model could wear such a masculine item of clothing yet still look so utterly feminine / chic.
WHAT ARE YOUR LEAST FAVORITES?
Swim wear. Boring as all hell.
WHAT KIND OF SHOOTS WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ON IN THE FUTURE?
I am really focused on Haute Couture / Fashion at the moment.
I have recently moved to Stockholm, Sweden and have been building contacts here over the past few months. It is exciting because it will soon be snowing and I have never shot in the snow let alone ever seen that much snow before as I am originally from Melbourne, Australia and it does not exactly snow much in Australia! A few winter wonderland fashion shoots are definitely on the horizon.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
I wish I could say I was one of those models who also paint, sing, dance, play a instrument, etc etc... but truth is modeling is IT for me. I can't even draw a convincing stick figure and if you want me to play a instrument it better be a triangle or a whistle or you're shit out of luck.
But, as stated earlier, I am also very passionate about acting. I seem to have molded modeling and acting into one lifeform over the years. Put it this way, if someone were to offer me a role in a film or series I would jump at the chance. That would make me exceedingly happy!
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
I have a very varied taste in music but if I were to chose my favorite styles they would have to be good old school Rock / Pop-Rock and Rythm and Blues. I love bands like The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music, Blondie, Nick Cave and The Badseeds and more recently Interpol and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I won't lie, with me the image in a band is just as important as the music itself and I think most people would be hard pressed to say these bands don't only look a million dollars but sound it too. A visual as well as an audio delight is what draws me in every time.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
I love to read my many Terry Pratchett books (hilarious British fantasy writer) and play video games. I addicted to really old school video games like Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart, Killer Instinct and Tekken. I'm a bit of a geek.
