HOW DID YOU GET STARTED MODELING?
I actually began modeling to observe lighting techniques. I’m a photographer (marygailphotography.com) and before I started modeling I only used natural light. The first photographer I set up a shoot with, Jeremy Scott, ended up being my mentor. He taught me all of the things I didn’t understand about my camera, and a lot of things about lighting equipment. Every photographer I’ve worked with, so far, has given me advice about photography.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT MODELING?
The creativity and the talent involved. I love doing a shoot and being blown away by the results. The world truly looks different through a camera; and, for every camera there’s a different eye behind it. It’s almost like you never know what to expect, which gives a beautiful mystery to modeling.
DO YOU COME FROM A BACKGROUND OF TRAINING IN THE ARTS?
I’ve had no professional training in photography; but, I have had mentors and friend photographers that have led me in the right direction. Other than that, I took lessons in how to play the piano, for most of my young life.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF OUTFITS TO MODEL IN?
I like outfits that show my form. I love the curviness of the female body; and I like exaggerating those curves in poses.
WHAT ARE YOUR LEAST FAVORITES?
I really can’t think of an outfit I wouldn’t want to wear. I’ve never stuck to one style of clothing, at any time in my life. I’ve always liked to have a little taste of everything. I don’t like closing the door to anything, including styles of clothes.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT TATTOOS THAT INTRIGUES YOU?
To me, any kind of design, on anything, usually makes it more interesting and beautiful. I feel the same way about designing someone’s body through the art of tattooing. The creativity, talent, and art within tattoos speaks to people, even in silence. I believe they show strength and beauty in a way that otherwise could be ignored.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
I do not, but, my husband owns, and works at, a tattoo shop in Pinellas Park, FL (www.classic-tattoos.com). Because of that, I’m constantly around art. He has done most of my work (www.bloodshaker.com). All of the artists at the shop are very talented. They draw every tattoo they do, and have their own paintings hung up all throughout the shop.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
I love all kinds of music. I’m currently stuck on the Black Keys and the Avett Brothers; but, I’m down to listen to anything.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
As long as I am in good company I find myself having a great time. I love people and interacting with them. I find nothing more satisfying than connecting with people.
