HOW DID YOU GET STARTED MODELING?
I was in school to be become a Special Effects Makeup Artist up in Canada. I'm originally from California and therefore, only had a study visa instead of a work visa. I learned that obtaining a work visa took potentially interfere with my study visa. With that being the case I needed to find a way to make money on side without threatening my status in Canada and viola! modeling was suggested to me by a friend and I've been pursuing it since then. I'm currently back in California and its going pretty damn well.
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT MODELING?
Since my main passion is makeup and I've graduated from a great makeup program most photographers trust me to do my own hair/makeup and I love that. It leaves me the freedom to play with whatever looks and colors I want. Also, as a teenager I was a raver kid and I'm a "Burner" so this has left me with a fabulous collection of unusual clothing. Modeling gives me just one more opportunity to flaunt my avant-garde wardrobe. Another great thing is all the beautiful, amazing outdoor locations you get to discover. The more outdoor shoots I do the more I'm let in on all these gorgeous hidden treasures. Plus its vain but come on, who doesn't like totally rad pictures of themselves.
DO YOU COME FROM A BACKGROUND OF TRAINING IN THE ARTS?
Well when I was young I acted in many plays and attended some acting classes, I took as much art as I could in highschool, went to University for 2 years studying for a degree in liberal arts and sciences, I've study painting under both my parents, and graduated from Blanche Macdonald with a diploma in the Global Makeup Program (fashion, special effects, and prothetics are my favorite fields). Both my parents were artists and my dad was also a musician so that stuff was pretty shoved down my throat since I was born. I probably sweat out watercolors.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF OUTFITS TO MODEL IN?
All the stuff I buy to wear to burning man. :)
WHAT ARE YOUR LEAST FAVORITES?
I've never had to really model in anything too basic or mundane yet but I don't think I would enjoy it much. I like to play a character with when I shoot, I usually come up with some silly background story in my head before the shoot and play into it, the more unusual or risque clothing inspires the more exotic stories.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT TATTOOS THAT INTRIGUES YOU?
They give you the opportunity to state to the world something symbolic about you. For instance the infinity tattoo on my forearm always strikes up a good conversation with people, everyone asks why I have it or if its a sideways figure eight (pretty funny), to which I respond, yes its an infinity symbol and its the only thing that has come to make sense to me in a spiritual aspect. From there the conversation usually gets deeper and deeper and ends up revealing something personal about the asker as well, even if its a perfect stranger. That to me is beautiful, that something so small has the ability to intense a connection between two people or even two strangers!
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CREATIVE MEDIUMS YOU WORK IN?
Makeup!!! Gore! Also, hairstyling, pastels, oil paints, acrylics, watercolors, ballpoint pens, charcoal, and a little writing.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
Man oh man, the list could go on forever. If the lyrics speak to me I sign and if the rhythm gets my blood flowing I move. I was raised off the blues and currently I usually end up putting on some sort of dubstep but I've gone through a phase of everything in between.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO FOR FUN?
I love hula hoop dancing, I tried out poi dancing for a bit, music has to be playing 24/7 in the background, swimming, traveling everywhere, water skiing, surfing (when I get the chance), camping, hiking, making a fool of myself at parties, laughing, loving, reading, pretty much I take full advantage of any opportunity that comes my way, and I always look for new things to try.
